Our plate is full here at Twenty-six:Twelve over the next few months. We will be taking a team to Bulembu in Swaziland, Africa from July 8-21. I am already beginning to pound my favorite motto into their heads: “Blessed are the flexible, for they shall bend and not break.” Beckie 2:11
Also in July we will be taking a team to Lost Canyon Young Life Camp in Arizona where we will be providing child care to teen moms who will be attending the camp – having fun and hearing the gospel. Those that went last year had so much fun and were able to love on these teenage girls and model parenting that many had never seen. The dates for this trip is July 18th – July 25th.
Then to top it all off we are planning one of our biggest projects ever – partnering with Habitat for Humanity in St. Bernard Parish of New Orleans. We will be helping to finish out more homes for those stranded folks who are still living in FEMA housing. We hope to draw in some of our men who love to sling a hammer or some paint – and don’t mind teaching others who don’t know how!

On Monday, our team to Belize had our first face to face meeting in preparation for our trip that is less than 2 weeks away! It was a wonderful day of getting to know each other and preparing our hearts and minds for what awaits us in Belize. Our fearless leader, Tim Tam from The Word at Work, came and lead us through a day of encouragement and practical information. Tim has been involved in ministry in Belize for many years, and therefore is able to guide us and teach us about what we should expect and what we will do. Our team consists of:
Alicia Anderson (ODS), Amy Chapman (AMA), Angie King (FMS), Beckie Hinze (26:12), Becky James (FTW), Cori Reid (AMA), Deantha Grattan (FMS), Emily Obert (26:12), Gloria Nanez (ODS), Manuela Pina (ODS), Marcylle Combs (FMS), Mary Kay Tallant (SAY), Melissa Hernandez (YKM), Regina Lacewell (DMS)

Dr. Beatriz Thompson, on the left, and a few volunteers started seeing cancer patients in their homes last year. She would do what she could to care for them in their homes and the volunteers would pray with them, read scripture and visit with them to make their days more pleasant. Dr. Thompson’s ministry has grown as word has spread about these caring people. Belize has no Medicare or similar programs. These people are all volunteers, including the doctors and nurses. Many work 6 days a week and then see patients on their day off.
From these volunteers, The Palliative Care Association of Belize has formed. They have worked hard to put together the paperwork needed to be recognized as a formal association in their country. I had the great privelege to meet with them last Wednesday night. There were around 18-20 people there – doctors, nurses, cancer survivors and other volunteers. These people are smart, kind and willing to ask for help and learn. They laugh – and eat together, too! More things that we share!
One of the things that we will be doing there in February is to do some training for this team.

I (Beckie) am leaving next Monday, 1/5, for Belize – This ‘pre trip’ is very important as we prepare for our training that we will be doing for the hospice team there at the Karl Heusner Hospital, February 22-28th. Dr. Beatriz Thompson heads up this team and has invited us to come through Tim Tam with “The Word at Work”. We are humbled to assist this team of nurses, doctors, spiritual advisors and volunteers as they strive to care for “the least of these” who are at the end of their lives. Please pray for me during this time. Sometimes differences in culture cause problems with communication – and I want our communication to be open and clear.
We love Operation Christmas Child at 26:12! Last year 17 of us got to see what happens with all those 500+ boxes that we put together by working at the processing center in Denver. By the end of the week we estimated that we had processed 17,000 shoeboxes that went to needy children. Come go with us this year! We will travel on December 9th and work in the warehouse Wednesday through Friday, December 10th – 12th. There are limited spots so let Beckie beckie.hinze@fms-regional.com know soon if you would like to go.
